Iron Maiden is perhaps the most successful British Heavy metal band of all time. Bass player Steve Harris, born 12th March, 1956 in Leytonstone, has been the cornerstone of the band since it’s formation in 1975.

Maiden’s first gig was at The Cart and Horses, Stratford in May 1976 and marked the start of several years playing the Londonpub scene, with twelve different line-ups, before signing for EMI and releasing their first LP, Iron Maiden, in April 1980.

Since then, the band has gone from strength to strength, releasing over 20 albums and building up a huge, loyal following. Perhaps the main reason for their success has been their ability to stick to their guns, ignoring the fads and trends that have seen other bands achieve short-term success but ultimately fall by the wayside. Maiden’s gigs are perhaps the greatest testimony to this, as more than a quarter of a century on the band still manages to fill arena and stadium size venues the world over.
